Finding My Limit
A journey from zero to 50 miles and beyond
Four years ago I didn't run. If you'd asked me, I would have said flatly that I couldn't cover half a mile, and I would have meant it.
Â
My first marathon almost put me off the sport. I found a plan online and followed it, numbers on a grid, distances and workout names, nothing explaining what any of it was for. So on top of the training, I was teaching myself everything else. What a tempo run actually develops. Why some weeks drop in volume. What to eat before a long run. I pieced it together from whatever I could find and never felt sure I had it right.
Â
That uncertainty followed me into every run. I got exhausted, got sick, picked up overuse injuries, and stopped enjoying running. I finished the Jersey City Marathon afraid the whole way that I hadn't done enough, and crossed the line knowing I'd left something out there.
Â
The 50 miler was different. Someone else handled the planning. I wasn't deciding what the week should look like or second-guessing it when a week went sideways. I just ran. It was the hardest training I'd ever done, and somehow it felt manageable. I finished third in my age group at the PPTC 50.
The difference wasn't talent or willpower. It was knowing why I was doing what I was doing.

If you're where I was

You've signed up for something that scares you a little. You've got a plan, or you're about to go find one. And you're already sensing that the plan is the easy part, that the questions start the moment life doesn't cooperate with it.
Is this pace supposed to feel this hard? Do I make up the run I missed? Am I actually recovering, or just tired? What do I eat before 16 miles?
You can answer all of that yourself. I did. It cost me a race I'd spent five months training for.

What we do instead
Training plans built the way I wish mine had been. Every session tells you what it's for and how hard it should feel. Deload weeks are explained, not just scheduled. Fueling, hydration and race-day strategy are in the plan, not somewhere you have to go looking. Each one tells you honestly whether you're ready for it before you buy — because the real problem with my marathon plan wasn't the workouts, it was that nobody checked whether it fit me.

One-on-one coaching when you want someone in it with you. I build your week around your actual life, read how you're recovering before your splits show it, and tell you the truth about your goal, whether that's easing off or going after more than you planned.

I'm UESCA-certified, and I've raced everything from a mile to 50 and am training for 100 miles.

Four years ago I was certain I couldn't run half a mile. I still haven't found my limit, and I don't think you've found yours.

My Why
Running is where I feel the most at peace. When I put enough distance under my feet and the noise falls away, and what's left is time with God and with the creation He made. I stop grinding and start noticing. The water, the light, the people I pass. I come back grateful for the body that carried me, for where He's placed me, for all of it.

My strength isn't mine. Whatever I've been able to do out there, He gave me.
